Innovative Design Makes Kitchen Faucets More Functional.

Hands free kitchen faucets provide a practical solution to most cook’s concerns over cross contamination. Most cooks have wondered if the transition from meat preparation to cleanup isn’t as “clean” as we would like. Turning on a faucet when you’ve just touched ground beef or adjusting the temp down after scouring chicken breasts can often result in a transfer of bacteria from your hands to your kitchen faucet. Faucet manufacturers and designers have come up with solutions to address those concerns. Both Delta and Moen offer a version of a hands free faucet. Here’s how they work:

  • Delta Touch20 Kitchen Faucets: Delta designed a touch free kitchen faucet that operates off two double AA batteries. Simply turn the handle to the “on” position and then touch or tap the faucet with your wrist or elbow to turn the water stream on and off. An LED light alerts you to the temperature of the water and a 90 second shut off means you don’t have to worry about water running for an extended period of time.
  • Moen MotionSense Kitchen Faucets: Moen designed their faucet to operate off of motion as opposed to touch. There are two sensors on the faucet- underneath the gooseneck of the spout and on top of the faucet. Both can be set to work or just one, if you prefer. Simply wave your hand over the sensor and you’ll activate the faucet.
